How do Chinese Antonymous Cognate Words Emerge? A Study From the Perspective of Metonymy and Metaphor

“Dialectics” and “contradiction theory” from philosophy are almost the only theoretical resource that can be cited to explain reason for formation of Chinese antonymous cognate words. However, this paradigm does not come law thinking, therefore cannot display dynamic process phenomenon fundamentally. Metonymy metaphor could applied as thinking mechanisms reveal rules generation Briefly, mechanism metonymy activates fission etymology; while metaphorical makes basic image schemas mapping between different conceptual domains help particular type words multiply in quantity. Furthermore, reasons metonymic explored under framework “Embodied- cognitive” linguistics emphasizing influence “cognitive-cultural” factors forming unique linguistic phenomenon.
